“We stayed at this beautiful cosy cottage around Easter time this year. It’s a real retreat- tucked away off the road ( with buses in the village to local towns) comfortable furnishing and beds. We stayed with friends and walked along the countryside canal to another village to a pub with good beer. Central heating really good and great insulation ( new windows?) The kitchen was welcoming and well equipped and a separate dining room as well as separate lounge. Dog friendly with a safe and enclosed garden which also had outdoor seating. Can’t wait to go back again for a relaxing break.”

There and back from Stathern to the castle grounds, up to 8 miles*

Drive a few minutes from the cottage to find this hill walk out of Stathern through the top of the castle woods to the boundary of the castle gardens. A lovely walk with fabulous views north across the Trent valley and close encounters with flora and fauna along the way.

* = best guess for the total distance out and back to the car again.
